I used to watch the seabird fly
in the Louisiana sky
free and joyfully in the wild

She used to nest along the shore
There she will rest forevermore
silenced by the poison in the sea that claimed her life

I remember how you flew
high above the ocean blue
When the world is lost in the dark

I used to think that humankind
could never be so blind
to rob the innocent of her freedom and her flight
